TITHES BOUND FOR ISREAL?
Are your tithes bound for Isreal? Recently, sending tithes to Isreal for distribution
to widows and orphans has become a hot topic in the Kingdom. As people weigh their stewardship responsibilities in this matter,
they want to make sure the right amount is sent to the right place and distributed to the proper people. Lets look at
God's word on this matter. We won't be able to fully deal with tithing here but we can answer your question. For more
information, listen to Finances in the Kingdom PT1, in the media
player on page 4. Jehovah's prime instruction on tithing in Deuteronomy 26:12-13
says: When you have finished laying aside all the tithe of your increase in the third year-the year of tithing-and have given it to the Levite, the alien, the fatherless, and the widow, so they may
eat within your gates and be filled.
NKJV God's people are to tithe every year but the third year the
blessing was set apart specifically for widows, orphans, aliens, and Levites. The real key is Gods instruction to use them
within our gates. The same instruction is given
in Deuteronomy 14:28-29. At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce for that year and store
it up within your gates. And the Levited because he has no portion with you, the stranger, the fatherless and the widow
who are within your gates, may come and be satisfied,
that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do. NKJV What are our gates though? What happened at the gates? Buying and selling, elders sat to judge. In the book
of Ruth we see Boaz going to the gate of His city to see if the near kinsman would redeam Naomi and Ruth. In some cases
gates represent our homes, in others cities, or our nation. Paul, in preparing an offering for the poor at Jerusalem in 1st
Cor 16:1-4, didn't ask for the tithe or tenth, but an offering instead. He recognized tithes were for the benefit of the
poor in the cities where the givers lived. Should your tithes go to Isreal? Not unless you live there.
Blessings,
Don and Deb
