God's Calendar
Does He have one? Does the One who dwells in eternity keep time? We assure you...He does! Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven...and let them be for signs, seasons, for days and years. (Genesis 1:14) When The Most High created the sun and the moon He created the mechanism for keeping His times.
From earliest days mankind measured time by Yahweh's calendar. Some examples from Genesis are: Reckoning of precise days of the month. Noah's account of the flood records, "on the 17th day of the month Noah's flood began". (Genesis 7:11) "On the 1st day of the 10th month the Ark rested". (Gen 8.5) Day or days are mentioned 134 times and year or years are mentioned 119 times in Genesis alone.
How did they know what day and month it was?
God's calendar is designed so new months are signaled as the moon emerges from total darkness and the first illuminated sliver can be seen. The number of days are determined by counting the sunsets from the time the first sliver is available to be seen. The number of months are determined by counting how many times a new moon appeared since the new kingdom year began. The next page contains Information for beginning a new year
A Hebrew dictionary such as Strong's or Thayer's, will show that "new moon" and "Month" are translated from the same Hebrew word; "chodesh." For example: Genisis 17:11 "chodesh" is translated "month" and Psalms 81:3 "chodesh" is rendered as moon. In God's Kingdom, the new moon and a new month are synonymous!
Sadly, men changed God's calendar by moving away from Yahweh's lunar system to one regulated by the sun. The heavens God designed to keep and signal time were twisted into objects of worship and for seeking answers about the future. Because of these revisions, the calendar God created has little in common with our modern calendar.
Yet God hasn't abandoned His calendar and His kingdom still functions by it. These are the times of the restoration of all things, (Acts 3:19-21) Restoration includes understanding the function and timing of God's calendar. Is sighting and verification of new moons necessary to begin a new month? No...
This is traditional, however God gave no command for men to witness or verify acts of nature from any location. This restores God's plan for the sun, moon and stars to rule over the day and night and are to announce signs, seasons, days and years. (Gen 1:14-18) This agrees with Jesus' teaching, (Acts 1:7) that "The Father has placed the times and the seasons in His own hands." This also agrees with David's request of Jonathan that he be excused from the feast with Saul because the new moon would occur tomorrow (1Sam 20:5-25). In the last example the new moon wasn't sighted yet they knew the new month would occur.
In Yahweh's view, new months have never depended on things as questionable as man's powers of observation or their desire to obey, but on the certainty of heavenly luminaries which are not in rebellion against Him.
New Moon dates ( First illuminated sliver after conjunctive darkness)

The US Naval Observatory link below now functions. Before generating the chart make sure noon is your option. Look for the day with all zeros; this indicates the moon is in total darkness. The date after when the moon emerges from darkness; will usually show 1 to 3% illumination. Verify moon set is a minimum of 33 to 35 minutes after sunset so the faint sliver can be seen. This is the beginning of Gods month, the biblical new moon. http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/MoonFraction
